Distilled on 22 October 2014 and bottled on 24 January 2024, the whisky spent its entire life in barrique EXP1064, a tight-grained 225-litre cask that dials up fruit richness without burying the malt. The first nose offers warm Danish pastry, rich with stewed plums and icing sugar; a sip reveals dark-chocolate depth, cherry liqueur and syrup-drenched raisins before settling into a long finish of red fruit and gentle spice.
Glen Garioch, founded in 1797 on the edge of Oldmeldrum, draws its mineral-rich water from the Silent Spring of Coutens Farm and is famous for unusually long, upward-sloping lyne arms that run the length of the still house; the extra copper contact lends a supple brightness to what is otherwise a cereal-driven, full-bodied malt.
Claxton’s created the Exploration Series for drinkers who want vivid cask character without the bruising strength of typical single-cask bottlings, standardising every release at 50 %.
