One of Scotland's most mechanically unusual distilleries — hammer mill, cloth mash filter, barely a bottle to its name: a 10-year-old Teaninich, finished in an STR Hogshead by Claxton's in the Exploration Series.

Teaninich Distillery was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro near Alness, north of Inverness, and is today owned by Diageo — with the vast majority of its output flowing into the blend pot. It is one of very few distilleries to use a hammer mill rather than a roller mill, and a cloth mash filter, giving it an unusual character for the Highlands. After ten years, the spirit received its finishing touches in an STR — Shaved, Toasted, Re-charred — Hogshead, bringing pain aux raisins, bread and butter pudding and sweet oak on the nose; the palate is full of pastry and raisin with sweet tannins and vanilla, the finish gently dry with lingering dessert-wine notes. EXP1088, 50% ABV, natural colour, non-chill filtered.
