Fettercairn Distillery was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay — one of the Scottish landowners who campaigned for the 1823 Excise Act — in the Howe of Mearns beneath the Grampian foothills. The distillery is known for its unique cooling ring that sprays water down the copper necks of the stills, rapidly condensing heavier compounds back into the pot and producing a lighter, purer spirit. After ten years, the spirit received its finishing touches in a Fresh Tawny Port Hogshead. The nose opens on strawberry jam, red berries, trifle and custard; the palate brings brandy snaps and berries in syrup with more trifle notes, the finish long and fruity with currants in the aftertaste. EXP1089, 50% ABV, natural colour, non-chill filtered.
