Tamdhu is a distillery that famously does one thing and does it flawlessly: sherry maturation. While the distillery’s own range is excellent, independent bottlings like this one, released in the Claxton’s Warehouse No. 1 series, offer a raw, unblended look at a spectacular single cask.
This journey began on 1st July 2013. For 11 long years, this spirit soaked up every molecule of flavour from its First Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead (Cask C25125). Bottled in 2025, the resulting liquid is a testament to the power of a quality cask—it has completely shaped the Tamdhu spirit into something rich, golden, and deeply complex.
Presented at a natural cask strength of 54.8% Vol. and a 70cl volume, this release yielded a total of 283 bottles—a true collector's scarcity. As is standard for the purist's choice, it is Natural Colour and Non-Chill Filtered.
The Flavour Profile: Liquid Dessert
This Tamdhu is pure liquid confectionery, but with the necessary oak and spice to keep it serious and balanced.
The nose is delightfully buttery and creamy, dominated by sweet aromas of custard pies, marzipan, and cane sugar glaze, complemented by juicy notes of strawberry and redcurrant in syrup.
On the palate, it’s structured and enveloping, delivering a bold blend of rich oak and spices, offset by classic vanilla, butter biscuits (shortbread), and a deep, malty backbone. More delicate notes of red berries and baked apples emerge, adding further complexity.
The finish is pleasantly long, lingering with spiced wood, soft lemon custard, raisins, and those beautiful, signature sherried notes.
