Tucked away beside the Dorie Burn in Banffshire, Auchroisk distillery was founded in the 1970s to supply malt for the iconic J&B blend. Its name, meaning “shallow ford” in Gaelic, speaks to the crystal-clear water source that first drew whisky makers to the site. Though relatively young by Scotch standards, Auchroisk has become a quiet favourite among blenders and independents alike, known for producing a clean, structured spirit that shines with vibrant fruit and subtle spice.
Distilled in 2013 and drawn from Cask No. 22074021, this single malt was matured exclusively in a red wine barrique for 11 years, then bottled at 50% ABV without chill filtration or added colour. The nose reveals bright lemon zest, praline, and baked strudel fruits. On the palate, raspberry, white chocolate, and honeyed richness unfold gracefully, finishing with soft tannins and warming spice.
Released as part of North Star’s Periodical series in a distinctive 50cl format, this rare bottling exemplifies the bold creativity and careful cask management that define the independent bottler’s craft.
