Distilled in 2014 and matured for nine years in a first fill Oloroso hogshead, this limited release from Claxton’s showcases Glenlossie’s gentle, grassy character in perfect harmony with sweet sherry wood. Just 246 bottles were drawn from the cask, bottled at natural strength with no chill filtration or added colour.
The nose opens with green apples, pear drops, and buttery shortbread, underpinned by a fresh herbal lift. On the palate, sweet biscuits lead the way, joined by more apple and pear confectionery notes, all resting on a soft, malty base. The finish brings comforting echoes of warm apple pie, mellow oak, and lingering malt.
Glenlossie remains one of Speyside’s lesser-known treasures — its floral, fruity distillate rarely seen outside of blends. But in single cask form, especially when paired with a carefully chosen sherry cask, it reveals a delicate complexity that rewards attention. Claxton’s, an independent bottler known for their selective eye and hands-off approach, has let the whisky speak for itself here — and it sings.
Whether you’re after an easy-drinking dram with depth, or something bright and different for your shelf, this Glenlossie is a delightful example of modern sherry cask maturation done right.
