Claxton's Smoking Furnace

At the Dalswinton Bond the vats were loaded with generously peated malts, steadied by a touch of grain, then locked away for a twelve-month rest in specially toasted, heavily re-charred oak. The casks did the hard work: flames licked fresh caramel out of the staves while lingering charcoal amplified the smoke. Crack the cork and a plume of rich peat rises first, soon streaked with custard-cream sweetness, bonfire embers and a brisk menthol edge. Glacé cherries and earthy ash trade places on the palate; ripe stone fruits drift in, followed by strudel pastry, heather and a lick of seasoned oak. The finish keeps the fire glowing—long, sweet-smoky and touched with fruity liqueur—until it fades to a gentle soot. All colour and texture come straight from wood and whisky; nothing more, nothing less.
